TGA Overseas Seminars for Late 2009

Some major changes were forced on the TGA administration due to the cancellation of the European PGA's Coaching Summit in Birmingham and the financial problems for many national golf peak bodies.  The staff have now confirmed the seminar commitments for England, Switzerland and Singapore for October and November 2009.  Rob Neal and Karen Harrison will be consulting in Germany in October before joining Michael Dalgleish for a Level I TGA seminar in Surrey with long time Convenor, GBD Licensee and PGA Professional, Stewart Corstorphine.  PGA Professional and TGA advocate Mark Bull will assist during the seminar that will be held at Selsdon Park. For the first time, TGA will present a Level I seminar in Zurich at the Bubikon facility.  Nicole Steinmann-Gartenmann (local Physiotherapist) will convene and local PGA Professionals, Paul Dougan and Garry Malia will assist in the presentations.  For more information follow your browser to the Schedule Page

UKPGA Coaching Seminar Series in 2010

In February/March 2010 the TGA team will present specialist seminars for the UKPGA at the Belfry.  Rob Neal will again conduct his very successful Biomechanics Seminar and this year a Master Class with Stewart Corstorphine and Mark Bull.  While Michael Dalgleish and Kelvin Giles will conduct a hands on look at Long Term Players Development - both practical assessment and exercise syllabus/intervention specifc to golf.  For more details go to the Schedules Page or contact Andrea Kelly for the UKPGA Coaching Seminars for 2010.

Physical Screening Format - TGA Protocol

A standard protocol for physiotherapy assessment of the golfer has been a goal for The Golf Athlete.  Over the last two months physiotherapists Bill McTigue, Ben Corso, Matthew Green, Michael Dalgleish (TGA Physiotherapy Director) and Rob Neal (TGA Biomechanics Director) have been working on the project. Consulting work is being done with Dr Kerrie Evans and Steve Ajzenman to ensure diverse input to the final product.  The outcome is a basic screening for the average golfer that marks the player on a 1-5 scale. Thus enabling ease of interpretation for coaches and players and for dissemination of results between practitioners when players may move from state to state or country to country.  We will keep you posted on the developments over the coming months.  Contact TGA for more information.

Physical Competence Testing for Golf

The physical competence testing battery for golf has now been finalised.  Testing protocols that are age specific for 12-16 years (Learning to Train) and 16-20 years (Training to Train) Levels have been formalised.  All golfers when first tested from 16-80 years would be tested at the Training to Train level. For more information regarding the Testing resource, the equipment used in testing or the golf specific exercise syllabus please direct your enquiries to Kelvin Giles at Movement Dynamics.

TGA Research Collaboration with Griffith University

Earlier in 2009 The Golf Athlete applied for a Australian Research Council Grant jointly with Griffith University on the Gold Coast. The grant application was lead by Associate Professor, Rod Barrett with assistance from Golf Physiotherapy Researcher, Dr Kerrie Evans.  The first round feedback was very positive and it is hoped that the grant will be successful.  One of the planned projects will focus on validation of the GBD's 3 Dimensional kinematic measurement system against the research tool, Vicon.  We will keep the data
base informed as to the implications that the collaboration will have for some key questions for those involved in golf performance enhancement.

New GBD Licensees in Adelaide

Ben Corso and local PGA Professional, Warren Mercer from The Grange Golf Club have taken up the Golf Biodynamics Licence for the Adelaide. Both gentlemen have been spending time talking to Rob Neal and local Australian Licensees Bill McTigue and Steve Ajzenman in Melbourne and Michael Dalgleish in Brisbane.  Welcome gentlemen and we are sure that it will be a major benefit to you and your players.  Contact Ben Corso at the Adelaide Golf Injuries Clinic.

Matthew Green - Physiotherapist to NSWGA
