Athletic Profiling for Golf Level I

This seminar is being offered to PGA Professionals and Health Professionals to introduce them to the basics of Athletic Profiling for Golf.  The Level I will introduce the participants to the Physical Decision Making Algorithm for Golf.  The algorithm assists in explaining the role of screening, physical competence assessment, golf specific questionnaires, report generation and assists in exercise selection both on the range and in training.

The TGA 10 Test On-Range Screening protocol will be introduced to all participants.  It was launched in 2011 after significant input from Matthew Green, Ben Corso, Dr Rob Neal, Bill McTigue, Steve Ajzenmann, John Hellstrom and Michael Dalgleish. This seminar takes the participants through the practical aspects of its application on the range or in the clinic for all levels of golfer. Its cornerstone is the ordinal measurement scale for the testing that allow a score to be generated from 1-5 on all tests.

This screening process dovetails perfectly with the launch of the Five Stage Physical Competence testing protocol in late 2011. Kelvin Giles (Director of Movement Dynamics) worked closely with Michael Dalgleish to provide a progressive protocol of assessment that allows for more objective decision making in exercise prescription. Participants will be exposed to the assessment protocol in a practical sense during the two days.

Finally the challenge is to formulate golf specific questionnaires for the golfer that will assist in isolating where the connection might be between equipment, practice habits, past injury history, technique and physical characteristics on testing.  This allows a complete Athletic Profile to be created for all golfers.

Biomechanics for Golf - One Day Specialist Seminar

Individual Coaching groups around the world have had different requirements from time to time.  As an example the following are some possible topics that maybe of interest to you:

  • Biomechanics and improving coaching outcomes
  • 3D assessment and biofeedback, ideal corridors in the golf swing - what are they and how to achieve them
  • Integrating the technical defiencies and the physical characteristics of golfers
  • Athletic Development for the Golfer - physical exercise prescription from 6 to 60+
  • New trends in the golf swing theory - what the numbers actually say about "Stack and Tilt"

You may wish to view a copy of the single day The Applied Biomechanics Seminar that was run by Rob and Michael on a number of occasions - for more details go to the seminar schedules page.

Rob and staff of Total Golf Analysis (Stewart Corstorphine & John Watson) and Mark Bull Golf (Mark Bull) have also run a two day seminar for the UKPGA called Integration of 3 Dimensional Motion Capture in to Daily Coaching - view details and a seminar outline in the TGA Coaches Two Day Seminar Section.  This seminar is scheduled again in the UKPGA Professional development seminars in 2012 and beyond.

Biomechanics for Golf Level I

As the demand for specialist topics has grown in the TGA network and its stakeholders a number of specialist seminars have been created or are in planning.  Rob Neal in association with the staff from Total Golf Analysis in the UK have successfully run a two day specialist seminar within the UKPGA Coaching Seminar series for PGA Professionals.  Many of our allied health clinicians have been very keen to attend this seminar and in consultation with the staff of the UKPGA this is possible.

The UKPGA seminar intially run in 2008 was titled Integration of 3 Dimensional Motion Capture to improve Coaching Outcomes. If you would like to be involved in this seminar as a participant then go to the Schedules Page or register your interest with TGA Admin.

Long Term Player Development for Golf Level I

Kelvin Giles and Michael Dalgleish have formulated a two day seminar that has been offered to PGA Professionals in the UK in 2008 and 2010 at the Belfry as part of the annual Coaching Seminar Series. The title of the Seminar was Golf Specific Exercise from 6 to 60+ years - turning theory into practice. If you would like to view an outline of the seminar the click here.  If you are providing physical assessment testing or exercise prescription to any level, handicap, age or sex of golfer on a day to day basis you should be able to answer affirmatively all the questions posed in this document - click here.

Kelvin and Michael can offer, to those who are interested, a One Day Introductory seminar on the same topic to suit those interested.

With the formulation of a Five Stage Physical Competence Assessment protocols for golfers in late 2011, the necessity for both PGA Professionals and Health Professionals to have a practical knowledge of how to assess Fundamental Movement Skills at all levels of development.  Please contact the TGA Admin if you are interested in either of these offerings for your stakehholders.

In addition, for those who had completed both the TGA Level I and II or a the LTPD I seminar Kelvin ran a the first ever Master Class in Oxford in 2011.  It is planned to have future Master Classes to allow for advancement and updating of the skills acquired by participants in previous seminars over the last decade.

Long Term Player Development for Golf Level II

After the success of the Level I LTPD Seminar, Kelvin Giles and Michael Dalgleish have now created a Level II seminar.  In the Level II the participants are required to bring a player and preferably another staff member along to the two days.

Initially the participants will be updated on new theory and the Practical aspects of the Five Stage Physical Competence Testing protocol,   The Physical Decision Making Algorithm will be explained to place the role of Athletic Development, Sports Medicine and Sports Science interventions in the creation of a truly Long Term Player Development Strategy.

This is followed by a comprehensive PCT of the player by the staff, the creation of a full report and graph of the results and finally the formulation of a remedial and long term programmes of Fundamental Movement Skill development.  Throughout the two days the participants will present and rationalise their findings to their peers.

The seminar is designed for small groups of less than 25 participants and completion of the Level I will be a pre-requisite.

Physical Assessment for Golf - One Day Specialist Seminar

This is a specialist seminar being offered to PGA Professionals and Health Professionals to introduce them to the basics of Athletic Profiling for Golf.  The one day seminar is part of the Athletic Profiling Level I Two Day seminar.  There have been enquiries to provide this introduction in many areas in the world so it is being offered selectively in some venues.

The 10 Test On-Range Screening protocol was launched in 2011 after significant input from Matthew Green, Ben Corso, Dr Rob Neal, Bill McTigue, Steve Ajzenmann, John Hellstrom and Michael Dalgleish.   This seminar takes the participants through the practical aspects of its application on the range or in the clinic for all levels of golfer.  Its cornerstone is the ordinal measurement scale for the testing that allow a score to be generated from 1-5 on all tests.

This dovetailed perfectly with the launch of the Five Stage Physical Competence testing protocol in late 2011.  Kelvin Giles (Director of Movement Dynamics) worked closely with Michael Dalgleish to provide a progressive protocol of assessment that allows for more objective decision making in exercise prescription.  Some of the aspects of this testing protocol will be explored during the seminar as well as an exploration of how the two protocols integrate in Long Term Players Development programming.

Finally Michael Dalgleish through the Physical Decison Making Algorithm has attempted to co-ordinate the inputs of the sciences into the Long Term Development process for all golfers.  This seminar touches on all of these aspects and credit will be provided to the completion of the Two Day Level 1 Athletic Profiling for Golf seminar.

The Golf Athlete - Master Class

The rapid evolution across the Sports Science and Medicine disciplines in Golf has been the genesis of this seminar format.  Many participants have been keen to be involved in an interactive seminar format that keeps them at the leading edge of developments in golf performance enhancement.

The format has been created to allow participants to actually play some golf and thus interact more with their peers.  The seminar will be open only to those people who have completed both the Level I and II The Golf Athlete seminars initially.

Approximately half the time will be spent in presentations and small group practical sessions - to update the particpants on the latest trends, software developments and research across the disciplines.  It is envisaged that there will be invited speakers and participants who present to the group over the two days.

If you feel you have the prior knowledge to participate in this seminar you will need to contact the TGA Admin well prior to the event.
